Overall Rating: 3 StarsThe hottest new ticket in town is the new show Frozen - Live at the Hyperion in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure. It took some time and some trial and error, but we were able to see it less than one week from its opening day. Even if you're not a big Frozen fan, there's a lot to love about this new stage show! |
Atmosphere: 3 Stars
Once you get inside the theatre, it at first seems a little underwhelming since the walls are simply draped with curtains and there are screens and projections everywhere, but they really come to life during the show! The curtains make you feel surrounded by the Arendelle landscapes and the northern lights! It doesn't blow you away as much as Aladdin did, but it's still pretty cool!
Entertainment Quality: 4 Stars
As can be expected, the music is great and the whole cast is made up of fantastic singers. The visual effects are surprising, though. They rely a great deal on projection technology for their special effects, but not in a lazy way. When you see young Elsa create her first snowball you'll be amazed and when you see Anna freeze it will blow you away! Not everything is a projection, though, especially in the "Let it Go" scene! Besides all of that, the puppetry is very well done and extremely cute. How can you not love Sven and Olaf?
Time Commitment: 2 Stars
The show is just over an hour long, which is not bad at all. It's a good length for this show. I rate it a little lower because of the time necessary to wait in the hot sun outside in order to garner a seat inside the theatre.
NOTE: In order to guarantee that you get a seat for the show, CMs suggest you arrive about an hour before showtime. In general, you can expect a seat if you arrive at least a half hour early, but any later than that and you may end up in the stand-by line. Please plan accordingly.
Side note: I do not have any pictures of the show itself because, as a performer myself, I understand the importance of keeping cameras and phones away during a performance to not distract the performers or other audience members. Please do the same while you see this show.
