Announced yesterday at the D23 Expo, Pixar will soon have a much larger presence at the Disneyland Resort ranging from new spectaculars in Disneyland Park to new attractions and a "new" land at Disney California Adventure. The news is good for all, for the most part, but there are some massive changes in the works happening in a very short period of time. Here's the latest updates on the new announcements. |
Pixar Fest
Starting in 2018, the Disneyland Resort will host a limited-time event known as Pixar Fest - a celebration of beloved Pixar films and characters. The centerpiece of the celebration is a new fireworks spectacular at Disneyland Park utilizing many of the same technologies created for the Disneyland Forever show for the 60th Anniversary festivities. A less exciting addition to Disneyland Park is the return of the Pixar Play Parade, meaning that Mickey's Soundsational Parade (the current daytime parade) will be leaving.
Over at Disney California Adventure, an odd addition for the Pixar Fest, but one everyone is extremely exited for, is the return of Paint the Night! Although information is limited at the time, it is confirmed that a new float will be joining the parade at the new park.

Pixar Pier
Beginning next summer, Paradise Pier will be permanently re-themed into Pixar Pier, a place where more Pixar characters can be brought to life in re-touched classics and at least two new attractions currently in the works. On top of Toy Story, which is already beloved by fans at Toy Story Midway Mania, guests can also expect to see new experiences based on Inside Out and The Incredibles.
Fans are mixed on this news. Although the overwhelming majority look forward to a new theme for the area, this means that iconic attractions such as California Screamin' and Mickey's Fun Wheel will be re-themed as well. The concept art clearly shows the entrance for what will be called the "Pixar Fun Wheel" with the quintessential yellow ball adorning the center of the wheel. Details are limited at this time so it is unclear what this transformation means for The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure, Ariel's Grotto, or even the Paradise Pier Hotel itself.
What are your thoughts on the news? What are you most excited to see (for me, it's Paint the Night)?
