This summer Disney sadly announced the upcoming closure of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure and future opening of the new Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT next year. Little has been said since then, but Disney has started using the Tower of Terror in advertisements for the Halloween season and is now planning on giving a celebratory send-off to the beloved attraction now through January when it's slated to shut its doors for good. |
Starting 9 September and running all the way till its last operating day, there will be new experiences inside and outside the hotel so fans can say good-bye. Props will be set up for pictures in front of the marquee and the Silver Lake Sisters (the imaginary trio whose exploits are posted all around the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe) will be performing farewell sets in front of the Tower in memory of their many great shows in the Tip Top Club.
The most notable addition will be the all-new "Late Check-Out" experience which will happen each night after "twilight". Guests boarding at those times will supposedly experience the entire attraction in the dark. Few other details are provided with what else the attraction will include. All this comes with commemorative merchandise and limited edition food and beverage items presumably only in Hollywood Land.
With this announcement also comes the official word that the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will be leaving DCA after 2 January 2017. Personally, I'm glad I have another trip planned to California before then so I can ride it a last few . . . dozen . . . times . . .
