With the upcoming closure of Paint the Night at Disneyland many were worried that there will be nothing to replace the nighttime spectacular until Fantasmic! returns next summer, but a week ago Disney Parks announced that soon the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade will return to its home in California for a limited engagement. The announcement also comes with news on the fate of Paint the Night. |
Currently, the Main Street Electrical Parade, which originated in Disneyland in 1972, can be seen at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World but its run it scheduled to end there on 9 October 2016. Disney has only said so far that the parade will arrive in the Disneyland Resort "next year", so there is no definite time when fans can expect to see the show yet.
The Main Street Electrical Parade ran off and on at Disneyland Park through the late 90s and again at Disney California Adventure Park through the early 2000s before finally making the move to the east coast where it has stayed ever since. Sadly, many of the floats have not received the attention they need so, unless they are refurbished upon arrival in California, expect to see an aging show.
On the heels of this great announcement, Disney also confirmed that Paint the Night is not gone for good. It will be appearing on select nights through the holiday season in Disneyland, so hopefully this is a pattern they will follow in the future so this amazing show will not be gone altogether.
