Disney has announced the official starting date for construction at Disneyland Park to pave the way for Star Wars Land.  This news comes sooner than many people expected, meaning that we could see the project completed by 2017 or 2018.  However, construction means there are certain attractions that will be closing soon, some for good.
According to Disney Parks blog, after normal operating hours on 10 January 2016 work will commence along the Rivers of America and the northwestern portion of Disneyland.  After that date the following attractions will be closed until further notice:
  • Disneyland Railroad (all stations)
  • Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia
  • Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
  • Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes
  • Fantasmic!
In addition they will be draining some of the water out of the Rivers of America until construction is finished and all attractions and restaurants in the current Big Thunder Ranch area in Frontierland will be closed permanently.  However, attractions such as the Mark Twain Riverboat and Disneyland Railroad will feature some unique interactive experiences during their down time.  Click here to learn more.

Be aware of the construction over the next year or so as you plan trips.  It's extremely unfortunate that Fantasmic! won't be shown for quite some time, but at least we all know it will be coming back eventually!
