Next year is going to be quite an exciting year for the Downtown Disney district at the Disneyland Resort. Since late 2016 Disney has slowly announced a slew of new dining and entertainment venues coming to the often neglected shopping area and most will be finished by summer 2018! In case you missed some of these announcements, here's a recap so you have reason to get a little excited for new night life!

Splitsville Luxury Lanes
The first major announcement came in December 2016 when Disney announced they would be building a new luxury bowling alley in the spot formerly occupied by the House of Blues. The chain, Splitsville Luxury Lanes, has a few other locations across the country but they aren't your average bowling alleys. The new Downtown Disney location will feature 20 bowling lanes, four dining areas to enjoy their craft burgers and pizzas, a bar, and will host live entertainment in a new state-of-the-art facility. Construction is already nearing completion and it is set to open "this winter."

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire
The VOID, a Utah-based immersive virtual reality company, has partnered with Disney and is moving into Downtown Disney this winter! Starting 5 January 2018 guests can jump into the Star Wars universe disguised as stormtroopers and, with the help of K-2SO, gather intelligence for the rebellion. It's a multi-sensory experience like no other! They accept reservations which can be made on their website.
Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer
Black Tap is opening their first California location at Downtown Disney. They're best known for their award-winning burgers and cooky milkshake creations with over-the-top decorations. The new restaurant will feature both indoor and outdoor seating and be reminiscent of a classic New York luncheonette. Even if you've been to a Black Tap before, their new location is going to be a "customized concept" for Downtown Disney set to open summer 2018. Yum!

New Western Gateway
Most of the buzz lately has been on the new Western Gateway project which will completely transform Downtown Disney from the monorail station to the end. The centrepiece of the whole thing is a massive new 4-diamond hotel built right at the edge of Downtown Disney and connecting to the monorail station. No theme has been announced yet for the hotel, but our sources tell us that beyond the 700 beautiful rooms it will also boast new Disney Vacation Club villas - only the second set in California! A rooftop restaurant (perfect for fireworks viewing) and new gardens, walkways, and retail spaces on the bottom floor round out the re-imagining of the whole district. This massive project is set to begin summer 2018 and will be complete by 2021.
