The restaurant itself is situated inside the Pirates of the Caribbean on the bayou (hence the name). It's quite dark inside but the decor is so well done it's easy to forget where you are. You literally can't even make out the ceiling because it looks so much like the night sky! There's not a bad seat in the house, but if you happen to manage a table by the water front then it will be even better! You can make requests for table locations, but your wait will be longer if you really want to be on the riverbank. I ultimately suggest taking the first available table, but it's your experience so you decide which you'd prefer.

My favourite menu item is the flat-iron steak with chimichurri sauce. It's to die for! Their Monte Cristo itself is comparable to those at the Cafe Orleans but the fruit and dipping sauces are far superior (the creme anglaise is my personal favourite). Heads up: recently the Monte Cristo has not been appearing on the lunch menu but is available if you ask your server.
I have yet to try something that wasn't amazing so you're sure to find something you'll enjoy from their southern and cajun-inspired choices spanning chicken, steak and vegetarian options. Oh! Don't forget the cheese bread and gumbo for starters!

The price is on the higher end but it's mostly worth it for the overall experience. As a tip, never try to eat at the Blue Bayou without a prior reservation. It can fill up rather quickly so make plans a month or so ahead if you can to guarantee a table. Also, be flexible as to reservations for lunch or dinner. Both menus are terrific and the leeway will afford you better options for times.
