Pym Test Kitchen

Overall Rating: 3 Stars

Pym Test Kitchen is what happens when super heroes, food and theme parks meet. The restaurant was developed by Hank Pym (of the Ant-Man movies) who uses the Pym particle to grow and shrink food and drinks into fun creations! Not every dish is a home run, but there's enough to enjoy here that you'll be glad you stopped by.

Atmosphere: 4 Stars

From the moment you step inside it's evident you are in an "experimental" kitchen. All the Cast Members wear lab coats and right overhead is a chamber where normal pretzels are being oversized in front of you. When you get your food you'll notice all the little touches that remind you of the Ant-Man origins of the restaurant. The beer taps are made of silverware and giant ketchup and mustard containers in the ceiling "supply" the condiment station.

The dining area outside isn't huge, but it is a decent size and you get great views of Avengers HQ and, if you're on the east side, the Pym Tasting Lab (which serves almost exclusively alcohol). It's also not too difficult to find a table in the shade.

Food: 3 Stars

The food is fantastic - depending on what you get. Reviews have not been overly positive for their breakfast menu but it is nice to have a third option in the park for breakfast. The best entrees are the Impossible Spoonful (a giant plant-based meatball in an oversized spoon), the Not-So-Little Chicken Sandwich (the bun is tiny and the chicken is huge, but crispy, juicy and tangy) and the PB3 Superb Sandwich. This is the biggest surprise since it includes peanut butter, jam, banana and candied bacon but it is fabulous! Most entrees are served with garlic tots which are good enough to enjoy on their own.

The "Red Particle" menu if for kids and includes smaller versions of the the "Blue Particle" menu and other interactive meals where kids can assemble their own food.

For the full experience, you can try the Pingo Doce soda (essentially a lemon-lime soda with vanilla) and the Choco-SMASH Candy Bar. This decadent bar is large enough for 3 or 4 people and will leave you wanting more. Seriously, I ate most of it by myself. No regrets...

Value: 3 Stars

Prices will seem a bit high, but most meals come with sides and some could be easily shared (like the Candy Bar!). Meals are usually around $12-$15 for adults and less than $10 for kids. The experience taken as a whole makes it a little more worth it and is a must-visit place for Marvel fans. Seriously, though, you NEED to try the Candy Bar. Or not and leave more for me, either way is great...
