Overall Rating: 3 StarsYou've probably seen the Royal Theatre in Fantasyland before and may have even noticed when a show was going on, but if you're like me then you may not have stopped long to actually watch it. Although the area can seem like it's primarily for young kids, the stories they tell in the Royal Theatre are entertaining for all ages and as light-hearted as you can get! |
Atmosphere: 3 Stars
The Royal Theatre is the centerpiece of the Fantasy Faire in Fantasyland located just off the Central Hub on the west side of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The theatre is a small, open-aired canopy amphitheater that fits the theme of the area since you feel like you're at a medieval faire. Even the announcements use archaic terminology to make your feel like you've gone back in time, which is a fantastic touch! On a hot day, the shade is very refreshing but the small size can make it seem just a little cramped, but it's still a great area.
Entertainment Quality: 4 Stars
Each show features Mr Smythe and Mr Jones, the Royal Storytellers, who are joined by a Disney princess to retell her story. The show uses minimal props and maximum imagination from Mr Smythe and Mr Jones as they take on the role of every character except for the princess herself. Almost nothing about the show is meant to be taken seriously! There's humour from the original story the kids will recognize and enjoy and plenty of witty jokes that older kids and adults will appreciate. This is truly "family entertainment" since the whole family will find themselves laughing at the antics onstage!
Note: This show relies on word play, dry humour, and over-the-top scenarios for laughs. If you do not appreciate that type of humour, look elsewhere.

Time Commitment: 3 Stars
Performances are the ideal length at just about 20 minutes and you are engaged the entire time, the only problem comes with seating. On busy days, even with the number of shows performed daily, you may find yourself having to wait up to 30 minutes to ensure you get a seat. If the theatre fills up there is standing-room seating outside the theatre, but that's out in the bright sun. Overall, however, I think this show is surprisingly fun and I highly recommend it! Thou shalt not regret it!
