Overall Rating: 4 StarsWant the ultimate vacation escape at the Disneyland Resort? Stay at the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Want an even grander escape? Splurge on one of a small handful of Signature Suites at the hotel. We had the amazing opportunity to stay one night at the El Capitan Suite and can tell you that, although these would be once-in-a-lifetime experiences, they will never be forgotten! |
Location: 4 Stars
As we've discussed before, the Grand Californian Hotel is the closest you can get to the parks. It's just a few hundred yards away from Disneyland and literally has its own entrance into California Adventure. You can't get any closer than that!
Accommodations: 4 Stars
Stunning. No words. Absolutely beautiful! The Grand Californian has a total of six Signature Suites, each named and elegantly designed to celebrate the beauty and architecture synonymous with the Golden State. By the grace of a "computer error" we were given a one-night stay at the El Capitan Suite which overlooks Grizzly Peak in DCA. This particular one is a 1-Bedroom Suite complete with walk-in closet, multiple vanities, jetted tub, steam shower, powder room, wet bar, dining room, office, vaulted ceilings, extended veranda, fireplace and three different entrances from the hall among many other things. The El Capitan is based on the architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright who designed many buildings and houses in the iconic Arts & Crafts style of which California is known.
Unlike many other reviews on our site, I am going to dedicate a good portion of this one showcasing photos inside the room since, honestly, it's not likely that anyone reading this (or even us) will ever stay here again.
Amenities: 4 Stars
In addition to all the wonderful amenities part of the Grand Californian Hotel including the pool, spa, restaurants, fitness center, Extra Magic Hours and more, guests staying at any Signature Suite also gets access to The Veranda, the concierge-level club on the 6th floor. There you can enjoy breakfast in the morning and other snacks or refreshments at different times throughout the day. Plus this is the only place I have seen in he entire Disneyland Resort with any artwork from the movie Brother Bear! It made my heart happy to see that!
Did I mention the turn-down service? That's a big perk, too!
Value: 2 Stars
I realize that I gave this a 4-Star rating already and that it usually indicates a perfect score in each category, but seeing how these suites typically go for $3,000-$5,000 per night I cannot justify giving out a 4 for Value. Even a 1 might be appropriate. However, the grandeur of the room makes it seem even somewhat justifiable for the price. I am not kidding when I say it's a splurge (unless you win the lottery or come into a large inheritance windfall) or even when I say it's unlikely you may ever stay here, but if by some chance that opportunity arises - TAKE IT! Don't even hesitate! You will seriously never forget it and it will make every other hotel room you have ever stayed in seem blah in comparison.
