Updated 28 May 2017 We've gone over the basics of FastPasses before, but now it's time every visitor knew how to make Disneyland's FastPass system work for them. When you know what you're doing, you can not only hold multiple FastPasses at once but also be able to use them to get on all your favourite rides in a single day without waiting more than 10 or 15 minutes in line for any of them. Let's get started! |
Getting FastPasses for your Party
To save on time, I recommend selecting one person in your group who's the fastest and having them get all the FastPasses for everyone else. Yes, that's something you can do. Disneyland even encourages groups to give all their tickets to one person in the FastPass Distribution line to keep it short and moving quickly.
One thing, though: everyone in the group must be in the park at the time. If you're planning on spending the morning in Disneyland but want to get FastPasses for Soarin', your whole group has to be inside the gates of California Adventure otherwise your ticket will not work in the FastPass machine. It can be a little inconvenient, but it's fair.

Holding More Than One FastPass
If you know what you're doing and count passes for shows, you can theoretically hold up to 4 FastPasses at once. The picture above is from my most recent trip when I had three valid FastPasses at the same time. If you get a FastPass for a ride but it's not good for quite a while it will give you a time on the ticket when you'll be able to get another one, usually no more than two hours away. Then, while you still haven't used the first, you can get a second FastPass for a different attraction. Keep an eye on the FastPass ticket - it tells you everything you'll need to know about not only your return time but also when another ticket will be available.
Rides That Don't Always Need a Fastpass
Not every ride with a FastPass needs them all the time. Here are the rides I would recommend staying away from unless you have a FastPass:
- Indiana Jones Adventure
- Haunted Mansion Holiday
- Splash Mountain
- Space Mountain
- Star Tours
- Soarin'
- Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Toy Story Midway Mania
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (mid-day and evening)
- Matterhorn Bobsleds (mid-day and evening)
- Haunted Mansion (mid-day only)
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (early to mid-day)
- Roger Rabbit's CarToon Spin (varies - check the wait times, particularly in the afternoon)
- Grizzly River Run (mid-day only)
- Goofy's Sky School (varies - usually afternoon)
- California Screamin'
- World of Color
That's it for this lesson, but let us know if you have unanswered questions, know people who do or have other suggestions to help others make the most of Disneyland's FastPass system. Have fun out there!
