Theme Parks & California's Reopening Guide
The state of California is no longer operating under the "Blueprint for a Safer Economy" which assigns color-coded reopening phases to counties as they meet certain testing and hospitalization criteria. Theme parks can operate under the lowest 3 tiers (Red, Orange & Yellow) but certain restrictions change as Orange County (where Anaheim is located) moves between tiers. For example, theme parks can open at 15% capacity in the Red tier, 25% in Orange and 35% in Yellow.
On 6 April the state of California announced that they will move away from the color-coded tier system and relax most restrictions in the state on 15 June, which will include:

- Dropping the travel advisory and allowing out-of-state travel
Disneyland has clarified the following rules regarding physical distancing and masks as of 30 July:
- Masks are not required for any guests outdoors
- All guests, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear masks in all indoor locations
- Masks are required by all guests on shuttles to and from the Toy Story parking lot
- Most formal physical distancing is ended, but guests are encouraged to create the distance they feel most comfortable with
Ticket, Reservation & Reopening Information
TICKETS & PASSES
Valid park admission AND park reservations will be required to enter either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. Keep these things in mind:
PARK RESERVATIONS
Beginning 12 April 2021, guests will be able to begin making reservations to visit the parks. Capacity is limited but will continue to increase over time. Once you have your park tickets purchased, follow these steps to make your reservations:
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you choose the Park Hopper option, you will be able to visit both parks during your visit based on capacity restrictions. It doesn't matter if only one park was listed as available when you made your reservation or if no availability is listed for that day.
Valid park admission AND park reservations will be required to enter either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. Keep these things in mind:
- Guests with tickets prior to 14 March 2020 will have their ticket expiration dates extended until December 2021 and can use them to make park reservations as early as 12 April 2021.
- Park reservations must be made in addition to park tickets to gain entry.
- Tickets with the Park Hopper option will be able to hop between parks after 1p each day.
- The Annual Passholder program was cancelled January 2021. A new membership offering will be made available in the near future.
PARK RESERVATIONS
Beginning 12 April 2021, guests will be able to begin making reservations to visit the parks. Capacity is limited but will continue to increase over time. Once you have your park tickets purchased, follow these steps to make your reservations:
- Link the tickets to your Disney account either through the app or on the official Disneyland website. Once they are linked, you will have access to the reservation system.
- Choose your party. Currently parties must have no more than 10 people and represent no more than 3 households. You will be asked to verify these details at this point.
- Select the day and theme park you would like to visit. Reservations are limited and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis and availability cannot be guaranteed until after the reservation is confirmed. If you have a multi-day ticket, repeat this process for each day of your trip.
- Review and confirm your reservations.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you choose the Park Hopper option, you will be able to visit both parks during your visit based on capacity restrictions. It doesn't matter if only one park was listed as available when you made your reservation or if no availability is listed for that day.
HOTEL RESERVATIONS While it is exciting that the parks are reopening and the Grand Californian Hotel will be taking new bookings again, it's important to remember that hotel reservations, including those at Disneyland Resort Hotels, DO NOT guarantee access to the parks. It is highly recommended that you hold on booking your hotel stay until after you have park reservations. You can book your stay directly from the hotels or book hotel and ticket packages through our friends at GetAway Today. |
HEALTH & SAFETY MEASURES
As of 30 July, some health & safety measures have resumed. Guests will still find hand sanitizer stations throughout both parks but physical distancing markers, hand washing stations and the majority of physical barriers have been removed.
Masks are no longer required by any guests outdoors but all guests, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear masks in all indoor areas including shops, restaurants, indoor queue areas and indoor attractions. Masks will still be required on board shuttles to and from the Toy Story parking lot.
As with any other park policy, guests who refuse to follow these rules may be asked to leave.

VIRTUAL QUEUES
Think of these as a sort of virtual FastPass that holds your place in line and lets you know when they're ready for you to hop on the attraction. Currently virtual queues are being utilized on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Indiana Jones Adventure, but joining a queue works slightly different for each. Both require valid park admission, the Disneyland app and limit guests to one boarding group per attraction per day. Make sure you have your entire party's tickets linked to your account before you join a virtual queue to ensure you will all be in the same boarding group. Here's the rundown on the queues:
STAR WARS: RISE OF THE RESISTANCE & WEB SLINGERS
Boarding groups are required at all times to experience this attraction and open up twice a day.
